How To: Set Quiz/Exam Security Features

1. Click on the Quiz/Exam you wish to edit.

2. Click on the “Update this Quiz” button in the top right.

3. You should now be viewing the exam settings page. Scroll down until you see the security section.

The security section is primarily for increasing exam security and lowering the likelyhood of cheating.

The browser security option will force the student’s exam to open up in a javascript window that covers all other windows and has no navigation features. This will prevent students from using search engines to find answers or other methods.

NOTE: To use this feature students will need to have a javascript enabled browser and pop-ups will have to be allowed by the student on their browser.

The require password option will allow you to place a password on the exam. If used creatively this can help prevent students from having another student take the exam for them.

The require network address is a setting primarily for proctored exam where students will be coming to a set location to take their exams. In most cases this will not be used because most classes are not web assist classes or students are not located near the campus. This field will allow you to set a specific range of IP addresses that a student’s computer has to have to be able to take the exam.

Once you have the desired settings scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Save and Return to Course.”
